We Fix What Others & Won't Touch

Jewelry Repair and Watches has been serving customers in Durham, NC for years. We are a small shop with big skills. Our jewelers and watchmakers have spent decades learning their craft. We love what we do and it shows in every repair we send back out the door.

We started because we saw a gap. Too many jewelry stores in the area sent repair work out to a third party. That means longer wait times, higher prices, and less control over quality. We do everything in house. When you drop off a ring, a watch, or a pair of eyeglasses, it stays right here with us. We work on it. We fix it. We call you when it is done.

Our team handles jobs from simple to complex. A broken chain? We can have that back to you same day. A watch that has not run in 20 years? We take that on too. We enjoy the challenge of bringing old pieces back to life. Some of the most rewarding work we do is restoring jewelry that belonged to a grandparent or a parent. Pieces with that kind of history deserve real care.

We also buy gold. So if you have old jewelry sitting in a drawer that you will never wear, bring it in. We give fair prices based on current gold value, not guesswork.

Plus we buy high end watches including Omega, Tudor, Rolex, and Breitling.

Every customer gets a straight answer. We tell you what is wrong, what it costs to fix, and how long it will take. No runaround. No surprise charges.

Stop in and see us at 1804 D North Pointe Dr., Durham NC 27705. Or call us at 919-471-0500. We are happy to take a look at whatever you have and give you a free estimate on the spot.

Your Jewelry Repaired Right Here in Durham

When a ring slips off and the stone is gone, or a chain snaps and falls in two pieces, it feels terrible. The good news is that most jewelry damage can be fully repaired. And you do not have to ship your piece to a stranger across the country to get it done.

At Jewelry Repair and Watches, we fix jewelry in our own shop. Your piece never leaves our hands.

We fix rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and more. Here is a short list of the most common repairs we do every week:

Ring sizing up or down
Prong retipping to hold loose stones
Stone replacement
Chain soldering
Clasp repair and replacement
Broken shank repair
Earring post replacement
Pendant repair

Most repairs are fast. Many can be done the same day or within a day or two. We will always give you a time estimate when you bring your piece in.

We work with gold, silver, platinum, and most alloys. White gold, yellow gold, rose gold. We handle it all. We also work on antique and estate jewelry, which requires a careful touch. Older pieces sometimes use techniques that are not common today, and our jewelers know how to match that style and method.

Bring your broken or damaged jewelry in and we will take a look at no charge. We will tell you exactly what needs to be done and what it will cost before we start any work.

Watch Repair Done by People Who Know Watches

A good watch is worth keeping. Whether it was a gift, a family heirloom, or something you saved up to buy yourself, a quality watch should not be thrown away just because it stopped working or the band broke.

We repair all kinds of watches in our Durham shop. Dress watches, sport watches, pocket watches, and everyday wearers. We work on quartz movement watches and mechanical watches.

We also buy high end watches including including Omega, Tudor, Rolex, and Breitling.

When you bring a watch in, we check it over and tell you what it needs. No surprise charges. No work done without your approval.

Here are some of the watch repairs we do regularly:

Battery replacement using Swiss batteries only
Band repair and replacement
Crystal replacement (the glass over the face)
Crown repair and replacement
Link removal and additions
Gasket replacement for water resistance
Full movement replacement
Polishing gold, silver, and stainless steel cases

We use Swiss batteries in all battery replacements. Swiss batteries last two to five years and are some of the most reliable batteries made for watches. We will not put a cheap battery in a good watch.

Pocket watches are welcome too. We enjoy working on older timepieces and have the tools and knowledge to service them properly.

If your watch has been sitting in a drawer because it stopped working, bring it in. A lot of watches just need a new battery or a minor adjustment. We can tell you in minutes what it needs and have it running again very quickly.

Engraving That Makes Any Gift Personal

A piece of jewelry or a keepsake becomes something truly special the moment it has a name, a date, or a message on it. Engraving turns a nice gift into one that gets kept forever.

We do engraving right here in our Durham shop. Fast, clean, and done with care.

People bring us all kinds of items to engrave. Rings are the most common, especially wedding bands and promise rings. But we also engrave bracelets, pendants, money clips, flasks, lockets, pocket watches, and more. If it has a flat or curved metal surface, we can most likely put something on it.

Engraving is a great choice for:

Wedding and anniversary bands
Baby bracelets and keepsake items
Award plaques and trophies
Retirement gifts
Birthday and holiday gifts
Memorial jewelry

We can engrave names, dates, short messages, and monograms. If you have an idea for what you want written, bring it in and we will show you how it will look before we commit to it.

Fonts matter. We offer several styles from clean block letters to classic script. We will help you pick the one that looks best on the piece you are having engraved.

Same day engraving is often available depending on the job and our current workload. Call ahead if you are in a time crunch and we will do our best to get it done fast.

Make your next gift mean something. Stop in and let us engrave it for you.

We Buy Gold and Pay You a Fair Price

Most people have old jewelry they never wear. A broken necklace. A ring from a past relationship. Earrings that lost their pair years ago. Gold that sits in a drawer and does nothing.

That gold is worth real money. And we will buy it from you.

We buy gold, silver, and platinum jewelry. We weigh your pieces and test them here in the shop. We base our prices on current metal market values, not on low estimates designed to pad our profit. You will always know exactly how we arrived at the number we offer you.

There are no obligations. You do not have to sell. We are happy to show you what your pieces are worth and let you decide. Some people come in just wanting to know. That is fine with us.

What we buy:

Gold rings, chains, bracelets, and earrings
Broken or damaged gold pieces
Scrap gold
Silver jewelry and flatware
Platinum rings and settings
Gold coins and dental gold

Karat matters when it comes to value. We test everything properly. Whether your piece is 10k, 14k, 18k, or 24k gold, we give you the right price for what you actually have.

If you are not sure whether your old jewelry is worth anything, bring it in. We see people surprised all the time by what a broken chain or a single earring turns out to be worth.

Eyeglasses Repair While You Wait

A bent frame, a snapped nose piece, a missing screw. Eyeglasses take a beating every day. When something breaks, most people think they have to go back to the optometrist and wait days or spend money on a whole new pair.

Not here. We fix glasses fast and we charge far less than buying new.

We repair all kinds of frames. Metal frames, plastic frames, rimless styles, half rims, and full frames. We also work on sunglasses.

Here is what we can fix:

Bent frames straightened back into shape
Broken hinges repaired or replaced
Nose pads replaced
Screws replaced or tightened
Temple arms repaired or replaced
Frame welding for metal breaks
Lens reseating in loose or popped frames

Most small repairs take just a few minutes while you wait. We keep a wide stock of tiny screws, nose pads, and hardware so we usually have what we need on hand.

We know how important your glasses are. Without them, your whole day is off. That is why we try to turn most repairs around as quickly as possible. Walk ins are welcome.

Bring in your broken frames and we will take a look at no cost. If we can fix them, we will tell you what it takes and get started right away. If for any reason a repair is not possible, we will tell you that too and help you figure out the best next step.

Come in and see us. We fix glasses every single day.

Rhodium Plating for White Gold That Looks Brand New

If you have a white gold ring, you may have noticed it starting to look a little yellow over time. This is completely normal. White gold is actually yellow gold mixed with other metals and given a rhodium coating to make it look bright white and shiny. Over time, that coating wears away and the natural color starts to show through.

The fix is simple. Rhodium plating restores that bright, white finish and makes your ring look brand new.

We do rhodium plating right here in Durham. The process involves cleaning the piece, preparing the metal surface, and then applying a fresh coat of rhodium through an electroplating process. The result is a hard, white, mirror bright surface that looks stunning.

Rhodium is also one of the hardest metals there is. A fresh rhodium coat does not just look great, it adds a protective layer that helps resist scratches.

How often you need replating depends on how much you wear the piece and where on the ring the plating tends to wear. For most people, replating every one to two years keeps white gold looking its best.

We can also apply rhodium to other pieces like earrings, pendants, and bracelets that have lost their bright white finish.

Bring your white gold jewelry in for a look. We will assess the plating, give you an honest recommendation, and have it looking brilliant again in no time.

Jewelry Restoration That Brings & Old Pieces Back to Life

Some jewelry is too valuable to throw away, even when it looks like there is nothing left to save. A grandmother's ring. A vintage brooch from an estate sale. A tarnished locket that has not been opened in 40 years.

These pieces deserve more than a trash can. They deserve a skilled hand and some time.

We do jewelry restoration work for customers throughout Durham and the surrounding area. Restoration is different from a standard repair. It means carefully evaluating a piece, figuring out what it used to look like, and bringing it as close to its original condition as possible.

This can involve several kinds of work done together:

Deep cleaning and polishing
Prong rebuilding to secure loose or missing stones
Stone matching and replacement
Metal repair and soldering
Replating worn yellow or white gold
Re-engraving worn inscriptions
Clasp and setting reconstruction

We have restored pieces that came to us completely broken, badly tarnished, and missing parts. The results have been remarkable. There is nothing quite like handing back a fully restored piece to someone who thought it was gone forever.

If you have a piece with sentimental value that has seen better days, do not give up on it. Bring it in and let us take a look. We will be honest with you about what is realistic and what it will take.

We treat every restoration job with the same care we would give to our own family heirlooms.
